That is what we are working on. Nothing has really been set up so far, as the story and unt lists are still taking shape. So far it looks like the U.S. units will be rather effective but absurdly expensive and only useful in late game scenarios, China/Russia will have the benefit of mass production at a low cost and would have to be a bit weaker but still great for early game rushes, and E.U. forces will be somewhere in the middle, with medium-cost units that are effective throughout the game. Right now we are working on the unit trees. After the unit trees are finished we will begin balancing and diversifying.

How about a kind of allowance system? You start off with some money whch you can use to build airfields, barracks etc. More money trickels in, and increases during periods of fighting? More kills, more cash. Or maby there would be supply airdrops. I'm also trying to decide how units should be built. I would like to see the traditional "barracks for soldiers, airfield for planes, dock for boats" system.

The Undying.

Okay, here is an early prototype story I created. It takes place during the war, and is told from the Chinese perspective.

The fight was going well. Taiwan had fought back, but was now firmly under PRC control. China had assisted North Korea in invading the South, and now the combined army marched on Seoul. It had taken only weeks to get here, and few casualties. The South Koreans had been pushed hard, and they were near their breaking point. Finally, a Chinese tank squadron broke through the enemy lines. The rest of the army followed them in, and the battle was over within hours. The North Koreans wanted to march further south, and the Chinese let them, althiugh they would be leaving the North Koreans to finish the fight themselves. The Chinese had bigger fish to fry. Japan had fallen swiftly, South Korea nearly as fast. The problem was that spies reported that the entire U.S. carrier force was approaching, and very quickly. The Chinese forces withdrew back to China, and prepared for the assault. It came at night. Navy SEALs and U.S. marines came ashore and began wreaking havoc along the shoreline. Planes flew overhead, bombing targets and downing fighters. The battle raged for days and the Americans captured a fairly large portion of land, but then something the Americans had not expected happened: the Russians came to aid the Chinese. The attack came from behind, striking swiftly. The Russians had refitted their ballistic missle submarines to fire high yield non nuclear missles, which they used to bring down the American ships in mere moments. Weeks later, China had recovered and prepared for an invasion of the U.S. Hawaii was first. The island fell swiftly as a chinese shock assault crushed all defenses within hours. With that out of the way, an invasion of the mainland was in order. It came on a cold winter morning as amphibious transports came ashore in California. The inital invasion was quite effective, but soon things went wrong. For the first time, the Chinese military had to face the full brunt of American air power as well as the entire army. Every night camps would vanish due to bombs falling from planes that nobody could detect. The F-22s also proved to be a nearly impossible to defeat threat. Army raids continued every day, and the Chinese were not doing well. The war lasted many years, but the Chinese slowly gained ground. Eventually, the PLA was on the threshold of Washington D.C. The pentagon had been destroyed, and American forces had been seriously wounded. The battle for D.C. lasted for months by itself, but China finally pulled through. The monuments and government buildings were razed to the ground. The war only lasted a few months more, ending with the invasion of New York City and the destruction of the Statue of Liberty. The young upstart nation had finally been defeated, laid low by their own foolish pride and overconfidence. China withdrew its foces back to the homeland, as the former United States transitioned to the control of the PRC. At this time, the North Koreans, thinking that they had the power to overthrow a weakened China, invaded. The Chinese dragon, wounded as it was, still fought back and brought the Koreans under their control. Russia had conquered Europe, China was the new world power and all was as it should be.

Sometime's it's just darn impossible to translate it in these ways. How do they do it? For those who don't know what Engrish is, it's when East Asian languages are poorly translated into English. Often found to be humorous.

Thats not really all the paractical. For starters the korean DMZ is the most heavily defended boarder in the world. about 2 million soldiers defend it with just slightly more on the northern side, but the southern side has about 40,000 use soldiers defending it. Even if china throws its entire military into an attack (and some how the south an americans don't notice) it wont be with "Minimal Casualties", it will be a slaughter. They would probably break though, and it would probably relativly quick, but with significant loss of life. The DMZ is so well guarded that nothing besides a mass charge with infantry, armor, and air support would get through. Throw in the mine field, massive amounts of artilary, 700,000 soldiers, and the fact that they are using american equipment (also note, american equipment excels in upfront engagments.) there is no way that the south would fall easily.

Also, seoul is within reach of most of the norths artillary, and i am pretty sure that the north actualy released a press statement a few years ago saying they could turn seoul into "A sea of Flames"

As for japan falling easily, i am not 100% sure, but i don't think it would be that easy. A missile strike wouldn't be effective due to the large amounts of patriot missile defense systems we have there. Leaving the chinese with the options of air attacks or an naval assult. Since the USA has several airforce bases in japan, stocked with american craft, i don't think an air campaign would work out. as fore an naval attack, the japanese navy is decent. Plus the USS George Washington (Nimitz class) is stationed in japan.

Last but not least, having the russian subs fire the ICBMs at the american ships would not be effective at all. ICMBs actualy go into space before they come back and hit their targets, in other words every one on the planet would know the missiles went up and would track them and know exactly where they are landing. They would definatly get shot down. and fireing them would give away the subs positions. Although the Missiles shot and ground forces would probably make it, but they would just be glorified cruise missiles and wouldn't destroy the american forces any more than the cruise missiles being fired from the USA navy would destroy the chiness.

Part of the reason why there isn't another WW is becuase no one would come out ontop, even with out nukes. Every one is so well fortified and covered that you would have to muster all your forces in one spot and than smash into the enemy, which would infict heavy losses on the attacker and leave their millitary a wreck. not to mentioned when they moved all of their stuff all of their other fronts would be wide open.

If you want a Major global war you need something to tip the balance, and that can be done in one of 3 ways. Some one gets stronger, some one gets weaker, or something pops up that every one wants.

Going with the first point, some one gets stronger. Have some one develope a millitary weapon that gives them a huge advantage. Some energy weapons, shields, compoiste armors, rail guns, Ultra fuel. If china all of a sudden starts producing super tanks that go 80 mph and are equiped with super armor that almost nothing can breach, that would give them an incentive to start the war. then just have every one else steal the tech or develope alternative techs. For the sake of the game, they need to get the techs quickly, otherwise china will have destroyed/conqured everything already.

For the some one gets weaker stratagy you almost have to have America get the short end of the stick. A major terrorist attack with nukes, presedential assissination, or a major revolution. Anything that weakens the USA and makes some one else think they could attack. From a gameplay point that might be used help lower the major advantage the usa gets with its huge millitary and large amounts of money.

The last way, might be the best. Africa would work best for this. Somewhere in africa some kinda of ultra rare materail is found, who ever holds onto this would have a huge advantage. since it showed up in africa, no one is currently holding it so every one would race to get their hands on it.

I know that the story dosen't make much sense. I've been thinking about this game for quite a while, and that was a very early prototype story. I found it and put it up here. I haden't done any resarch, hadn't put any thought into the plausibility of the story, I'd simply written it. It wasn't meant to be the actual storyline, just an example to get creativity flowing.

This light support weapon fulfills the same role as the Squad Automatic Weapon in the US Armed Forces, which is still under evaluation into issuing it to US troops. It has a longer and heavier barrel, a higher firing rate, heavier cartridge and is equipped with a 100-round drum magazine.

Here is another prototype story that I came up with today during a moment of boredom. It tells how the war began.

The 2012 U.S. presidential election was won by a man named Roy Bloomington. Roy was a cold war era better-dead-than-red anti-communist, who saw China as a threat to the entire western world. He did whatever he could to oppose them. In 2014, Taiwan, emboldened by their new support, attempted to make themselves independent. China respoded with military force, just as they said they would. President Roy saw this as an attack on democracy and attempted to rally NATO against the Chinese "threat", but NATO didn't want to get tangled up in that. Disgusted, Roy declared that the U.S. would be leaving NATO. He then declared war on China, and promised to bring "burning American justice" down upon the "godless-soviet-wannabe-dragon-obsessed-commies." In an attempt to stop him, NATO decided to take a stand against the U.S., although countries in close proximity to the United States, such as Mexico, opted to stay out of the fighting.

I have had the idea that the game would have a day-night cycle, with each minute being equivalent to an hour. Nightfall would reduce visibility, but offer saftey to things like B-2 missions. I also thought that the way to make money by an allowance would be based on how the war was seen back home. A low approval rating means less money, hile a higher rating means more. This could also bbe used as a way to keep people from overusing weapons of mass destruction. Striking first with WMDs would cause your approval rating to plummet, but your enemy would be able to retaliate without losing any approval.

I also came up with some silly unit quotes:

F-22 - selecting unit: "No one comes close.", "whats up?" - attacking: "ownzord", "should I kill him with my awesomeness rays?" - under attack: "This isn't supposed to happen!", "Who does he think he is, Chuck Norris?" - being shot down: "Haaaaaaaaacks!!!!!!! *kaboom*

Ohio-class submarine - launching first strike nuke: "Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds." - launching retaliation nuke: "Vengance!"

B-2 - attacking at night: "Silent death." - being sent somewhere during the day: "Are you insane!?", "We are going to die."

Is it strange that I always think of the B-2 pilot as a woman?

I may have been a bit harsh in my last post here, sorry about that. So now i am actualy going to add something meaningful.

I am gonna hit on your story again and add on to it. But first i think you ment UN instead of NATO.

Your current story makes the USA out to be the "Bad guys" of the game. which could work out, but it also makes the rest of the world aligned againt the USA.

Heres my suggestion. Push the game further into the future, to about 2028-2032. At this point NATO has become like one giant country. The USA is now made up of canada and mexico and also extends partway down into south america. You still have the EU, might wanna make them encompass all of Europe. Have china and russia join up along with the other smaller asian countries, north korea, laos, cambodia, vietnam, burma. Have south korea, japan, autralia and the other small countries in that area form a neutral pacific coalition. have the Arabic countris form an Arab League, and ignore africa. Africa has nothing meaningful to add, besides being a battle ground. (not sure what to do with isreal)

Following your story, Roy BLommington becomes president and has is cold war crazy policies. He expans goverment while limiting some civil liberties and expands the USA further into south america. there is growing disent in america, mostly on the west cost and central america that extends into canada. While the southern states, east cost, mexico, and south america are firm supporters of the president.

Now taiwan does its stuff and china attacks. Roy attempts to declare war, but he can't get the senate and congress onboard, meanwhile the EU is against it. However the Arabic League, fearing china's expansion near its own territory is for the attack. Sensing his grand oppertunity to destroy china is disapearing, roy declares that the head senators opposing him are agents of china trying to keep the USA from helping taiwan, and has the imprisioned during a closed doors sesion of congress. With several Key opponets now jailed he has the majority and declares war. Without informing the public he orders the millitary forces he ordered into the area to launch a full attack againt china. He also calls on the Arabic Legue to attack china from the sides.

China is caught of guard by the suprise attack and while attempting to reorganize itself it gets attacked by the Arabic League, which invades into india and from afganistan into mainland china and russia through kazakistan, the arabic league also moves from turkey into greece, which proves a response from the EU.

Americas forces are quickly split into 4 tasks forces, each with several objectives. Task force alpha contains the greatest amount of naval assets out of the 3 taskforces. It only has 2 carriers but several battle ships, crusiers and destroyers. ITs primary objectie is to prevent the EU from sending any assitances to chian via the oceans, or to prevent an attack on America, its seconday objective is to drop off reinforcements for the Arab league forces in greece that are now facing the full weight of the EU's combined millitary. Task force alpha is commanded by admial (insert name here) who is very loyal to the president.

Task force Bravo is to go around africa and invade india and burma. the forces will conect the to areas and move northward to team up with the Arab league forces, and then push into china. task force bravo is the second smallest of the groups consisting of only 1 carriers, but containing all 7 of the navy's railgun equiped, Zumwalt class destroyers. Task force bravo carries more cround forces that Alpha but far less than task force Charlie. the ground forcers are commanded by Major general (Insert name here) of the marines and the naval forcers by Vice admiral (insert name), both of which have worked together in the past and are relativly moderate.

Task force charlie is comanded jointly by Admiral (name) and general (name), together they command the largest cluster of ammerican millitary strengh since WW2. The navel forces of Task force Charlie contains 7 out of the remaining 8 aircraft carriers and more ships than the other 3 tasks forces combined. Charlies also has more ground forces, both army and marines than the other forcers. Charlie was split into 3 sections, the first contained a single carrier and only a few support ships and ground forces, this is the group that was sent to tiawan and the group that launched the initail attack. this group consisted of about 10% of the total of Task for charlie and has sustained heavy losses. the second group was onder the comand of rear admiral (name) and was ordered to move through the south china sea and invade vietnam, eventualy moving north west and meating up with task force Bravo. the third group was the main body consisting of 70% of the entire taskforce and was going to retake tiawan and then invade china.

Task force delta is the homeguard. it contais 1 carriers and mostly older warships maned by the coastguard, its naval assets are stationed in pearl harbor hawaii. its ground assets are possitioned sparsly along the west coast and heavily along the east, however they are mostly national guardsmen and reservist, using less than top of the line equipment.

Now before the 3 attacking tasks forces get into position, the public learns of the war and suprise attack, and also the impisonment of the senators. The public and some of the military sees through the president's deception and declairs him a traitor and revolts. The wester and central united states, along with canada break away from what they are now calling the American Empire. Task force delta splits on geographic lines, the naval section teams up with the western united states, meanwhile the ground forces move to enact "martial law" on the west.

Task force charlie splits a detatchment of ground and sea forces to retake pearl harbor and then assult the west cost. the main body of Charlie continues on with its main task, however the 2nd group that was headed to vietnam instead pulls back and retreats to indonesia.

Task force alpha changes its mission goal and instead attacks ireland, the UK and iceland, which promtly fall and surrender. Alpha begins fortifing its positions and preparing for a larger attack againt against europe.

The EU is forced to divert forces from its battles against the Arab League to confront the larger treat of US forces.

However the EU gets some breathing room when Task forcer Brao goes rouge and instead moves into the Persian gulf and begins an attack against saudi arabia, iraq, and iran.

So a break down of forces.

Good guys,   Weatern USA and canada (Most of Task force delta,Task force Bravo), China, EU

Bad guys,     Eatern USA, or the American Empire east cost and southern states, mexico, and south america (eastern ground forces of task force Delta, Task force Alpha, and majority of task force Charlie), Arabic League.
